Pharmacy
My work brings together clinical pharmacy, team leadership, health informatics and education. I’m interested in how people, systems and technology can work together to support safe and effective healthcare.
My background
I’m a pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). I worked in community pharmacy before moving into primary care, developing an interest in prescribing safety, quality improvement and the systems that support clinical practice.
I previously worked for Ardens Health Informatics, where I led the development of medication safety tools. That experience brought together my clinical knowledge and interest in making information useful at the point of care.
Leadership and quality improvement
I lead a team of pharmacy professionals and work across the practice to support the delivery of safe and effective healthcare. Supporting colleagues’ development, coordinating work and improving everyday processes are central to my approach.
I lead on the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), helping coordinate reviews, support colleagues and develop processes for delivering and monitoring care. Clinical audit is another important part of my work, helping identify prescribing risks and turn findings into practical changes.
SystmOne development
I have specialist expertise in SystmOne development, using reports, protocols and templates to support the practice. My focus is on tools that help colleagues identify what needs attention, record care consistently and monitor follow-up.
This includes protocols and reports to support the identification and management of safeguarding concerns, alongside templates and reports to record and monitor contractual services.
Selected clinical audits
I led each of the following audits, working with colleagues to review practice, discuss findings and identify opportunities for improvement.
Oral anticoagulant safety
Reviewing the safeguards around dispensing high-risk medicines, including monitoring, potentially interacting medicines, alert cards and patient understanding. The work included training the dispensing team to recognise concerns and refer them for clinical review.
“Open the Bag”: reducing medicines waste
Exploring how conversations at collection can identify unwanted medicines, oversupply and difficulties taking treatment. The audit informed recommendations around responsible ordering, dispensing procedures and referral for medication review.
Asthma prescribing and inhaler use
Reviewing prescribing and dispensing patterns to identify people who could benefit from an asthma review, inhaler technique support or advice about their devices. The work highlighted the dispensing team’s role in recognising concerns and prompting timely clinical review.
Supporting foundation pharmacists
I deliver facilitated local learning sets for trainee pharmacists in Wiltshire throughout their foundation training. These sessions bring learners together to explore themes linked to priority learning outcomes and discuss how they apply in practice.
Professionalism
Exploring professional responsibilities and accountabilities as a trainee and future prescribing pharmacist: legal expectations, the basis of the prescribing role, consent and capacity, and working within a safe and effective scope of practice. Discussions also consider extending that scope and the authority to prescribe within an employed role or service.
Developing as a culturally competent practitioner
Considering how diverse backgrounds and protected characteristics influence care, including communication, physical examinations and therapeutic choices. Shared decision making and person-centred care run throughout these discussions.
Clinical reasoning and decision making
Exploring diagnostic reasoning, therapeutic selection and clinical decisions, including how to manage ambiguity and involve people in decisions about their care.
