My first production using LED video walls, combining a substantial video system with live camera feeds and bespoke content for the stage.

The technical story

System design

The video system comprised four INFiLED AR Series LED walls and a Panasonic PT-RQ35K projector for the front cloth. Working with Stage Sound Services (SSS), we designed the playback system around two Mac Studios running QLab and Brompton Tessera LED processors. SSS provided invaluable support as I learnt to work with LED on this scale.

Live video and synchronisation

An offstage video booth allowed Killer Queen and Commander Khashoggi to perform into a camera, appearing on the upstage LED wall as though they were joining the scene via video call. We also integrated timecode to keep video in sync with other technical departments. The video system worked flawlessly throughout the run.

Creative collaboration

A key lesson from Les Misérables was the need to invest as much in content as in equipment. For this production, Limbic Cinema created the fantastic on-screen graphics, allowing the technical and creative elements to come together far more effectively.
